Challenger EU challenge
15 November 2007Colin Challenger was instructed by ApTibet, a UK charity and NGO, which is believed to be the first NGO to secure a judgment - and the first party to obtain default judgment - against the European Commission. The Commission disputes jurisdiction, and has taken that point in enforcement proceedings before Master Fontaine. Her judgment on the issue is reserved.
Bogus email scam
It has come to our attention that members of the public may have received unsolicited emails purporting to have been sent by members of Lamb Chambers. The email seen by us refers to the recipient having won a lottery (or otherwise come into money) and a member of chambers having been appointed to deal with such. There may be other variations in circulation.
Such emails are bogus. For the avoidance of doubt we do not send unsolicited emails to - or otherwise approach directly - members of the public. We do not deal with the financial affairs of members of the public. If you have any concerns about, or wish to check the origin of, an email you have received which purports to have been sent by us please telephone on 020 7797 8300 (outside the UK: +44 (0)20 7797 8300) and disregard any telephone number included in such email.
50 years of New York Convention
Sir Robin Auld and
Christopher Gardner QC attended the Conference in New York held to celebrate 50 years of the New York Convention, presented by the Arbitration Committee of the International Bar Association in cooperation with the United Nations.

23 year compensation battle success
15 June 2007John Cherry QC, instructed by Janet Baker of Keeble Hawson, has secured a substantial compensation package for Sarah Ashton, who suffered hypoxic brain damage at birth nearly 23 years ago. At a High Court hearing before Mr Justice Tugendhat on 15th June 2007, approval was given to a lump sum payment of £1M and index-linked periodical payments of £100,000 PA for life. The capital value of the claim was about £4.1M. The defendant, Yorkshire & Humber Strategic Health Authority, had admitted liability at an earlier stage of the proceedings.

17 October 2005Timothy Briden has been appointed Vicar-General of the Province of Canterbury. The Vicar-General presides over confirmations of election of diocesan bishops in the Province of Canterbury and has a particular role in the operation of the Clergy Discipline Measure.

Malaysian advocacy
Several members of Chambers conducted an advanced advocacy course in Malaysia at the invitation of the Kuala Lumpur Bar Council between 24 and 28 January 2005. Under the chair of Paul Emerson, they delivered lectures and supervising workshop sessions for 150 Malaysian lawyers. The other members involved were Timothy Frith, Andrew Wille, Adam Walker, Richard Baker and Jane Clifton.

Gardner CJ
After his 36 years as a member of Lamb Chambers, latterly as Head of Chambers, Christopher Gardner QC was appointed Chief Justice of the Turks & Caicos Islands in the Carribean. 'CJCG' was sworn in on 3 December 2004.

Cherry on top
Upon the retirement as Head of Chambers of Christopher Gardner QC on 1 June 2004,
John Cherry QC agreed to become the new Head of Lamb Chambers. Chambers is indebted to Christopher for his successful leadership over the past 6 years.

HHJ Carey
10 June 2004We congratulated Jeremy Carey on his appointment as a Circuit Judge. He was assigned to the South Eastern Circuit, with effect from 10 June 2004. A dinner was held in his honour on 14 January 2005 at the Cavalry and Guards Club, Piccadilly.
