James Bridgeman

James Bridgeman, Barrister at Law (Kings Inns 1989 and Middle Temple 2010), is a Fellow of the CIArb, a Chartered Arbitrator and accredited mediator (MII). He is in general practice as a barrister holding practicing certificates for England and Wales and Ireland having special interests in commercial, intellectual property, construction and technology law, arbitration and ADR.

He has over twenty years experience in litigation and as a practitioner of arbitration, mediation and other forms of commercial dispute resolution procedures and related court applications. He has been appointed as arbitrator and tribunal member, (chair and sole panelist) in over 300 arbitrations, tribunals, expert determinations and administrative proceedings. He has been appointed as arbitrator and neutral by the President of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb, London), the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO, Geneva), the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC, Paris), the National Arbitration Forum (NAF, USA), the Czech Arbitration Centre (Prague), Nominet UK, the Private Residential Tenancies Board (Ireland) and the Mental Health Commission (Ireland) and by party nomination.

He is a member of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Commission on Arbitration and the ICC Commission on Intellectual Property. He has served as a member of the ICC Task Force on Revision of ICC Rules, the ICC Task Force on Arbitration involving State Entities, the ICC Task Force on the New York Convention 1958, the ICC Task Force on Arbitration of Competition Law, the ICC Working Group on the Arbitration of Intellectual Property Disputes. He is a member of the ADR committee of the Bar Council of England and Wales, a founder member of the CIArb IP&ICT interest group and is listed as a mediation provider by the Intellectual Property Office.

He is presently designated by the Government of Ireland to serve on the Panels of Conciliators and of Arbitrators maintained by the International Centre for the Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID). In 2010 he was appointed by DG Justice of the EU Commission as a member of the Expert Group to advise on the revision of the Brussels 1 Regulation and Arbitration. Medical Council. He has been appointed by the Government of Ireland to the Property Services Appeals Board (Ireland).  He is the Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee of the Institute of Incorporated Public Accountants (IIPA, Ireland). He is listed in the International Who's Who of Commercial Mediation 2012 and The International Who's Who of Business Lawyers 2013 as being among the world's leading commercial mediators and is a Freeman of the Arbitrators Company (London).

He is a graduate of Trinity College Dublin where he read History and Political Science. He subsequently read Law at the Kings Inns, Dublin. Before commencing practice as a barrister he qualified as a Registered Trademarks Agent. He was awarded a Diploma in Arbitration Law (DIT 1990), a Diploma in International Arbitration Law (DIT, 1991), a Diploma in European Law (UCD 1994) and a Diploma in Construction Law and Contract Management (TCD 2004).
