Called to the Bar, Gray’s Inn; Bencher; in practice at the English Bar 1963-1987, with a wide commercial, common and public law practice; Queen’s Counsel, 1975; admitted to the Bar, State of New York, USA, 1984, and to the Bar of New South Wales, Australia, 1986; Leading Counsel for the Hong Kong Government in the Shatin Hospital Arbitration, Hong Kong, 1983-1985; Leading Counsel for the Mighty City Corporation in the Tuen Shui Wai Development Dispute, 1985-1986; Leading Counsel for the British Government before the Australian Royal Commission into the British Nuclear Tests in Australia, 1986.

Chairman/member of various public inquiries, including: Mem., Commission of Inquiry into Casino Gambling in the Bahamas, 1967; Chm., William Tyndale Schools Inquiry, 1975-1976; Department of Trade Inspector, Ashbourne Investments Ltd., 1975-1979, an inquiry into secondary banking accounting and take-over activities; Chm, Home Office Committee of Inquiry into Sunday Trading, 1983-1984; Chm, Working Group for the establishment and drafting of the Construction Industry Model Arbitration Rules, 1998 (“the CIMAR Rules”); Chm., Review of the Criminal Courts of England & Wales, 1999-2001 (“the Auld Review”), and Sole Commissioner of Inquiry into Governmental Corruption in the Turks & Caicos Islands, 2008-2009.
