Nawazish Choudhury

Having spent the first eight years of practice at the common law bar, gaining significant trial experience as sole counsel in commercial, property and personal injury trials, Nawazish’s practice now covers a wide range of international arbitration work (both commercial and investment treaty arbitration).

In 2017, he graduated from the International Arbitration LL.M. program at the University of Miami School of Law at the top of his class. A recipient of the scholarship from the University of Miami’s International Arbitration Institute, he scored the highest grades of the year for Professor Jan Paulsson (Advanced Arbitration), Marike Paulsson (the New York Convention) and Nassib Ziadé (Investment Arbitration). While in Miami, Nawazish completed practicums at both GST LLP and Shutts & Bowen where he worked on international commercial arbitrations under the ICC and LCIA rules. He was also selected by the University of Miami to act as assistant-coach to the International Moot Court Team, and sat as an arbitrator for the Foreign Direct Investment Moot in Buenos Aires (2017).

Most recently, Nawazish completed a one-year post as an international visiting lawyer at the Washington D.C. office of White & Case LLP, where he worked on investment treaty arbitration cases before ICSID having been assigned to Carolyn Lamm’s team. White & Case also selected him to attend the Young International Arbitration Group (YIAG)-PwC Cross-Examination event in New York (June 2018).

For the next year, Nawazish shall act as advisor to the Bahrain Chamber of Dispute Resolution (BCDR).

** Please note that Nawazish is currently an unregistered Barrister. He does not hold an active practice certificate from the Bar Council and is not eligible to receive instructions to appear before the courts of England and Wales. He shall resume practice and renew his certificate upon his return to Chambers.
