Andy Slaughter MP

Andy Slaughter was called to the Bar in 1993 and practised until elected as a Member of Parliament in 2005.

Andy practised Criminal and Civil Law, before specialising in Personal Injury and Landlord and Tenant Law. His Housing Law practice including work for landlords, particularly housing associations and local authorities, and tenants, including nuisance and disrepair cases.

In 2005 he was elected as MP for Ealing, Acton & Shepherds Bush, and re-elected on new boundaries for the Hammersmith seat in 2010 and 2015.

In 2010 he was appointed Shadow Justice Minister, a position he held for five years, with responsibility for Civil, Criminal and Family Law, Legal Aid, relations with the legal profession and the Courts and Tribunals Service.  Following the 2015 Election he was appointed as Opposition lead on Justice in the House of Commons and with responsibility for Human Rights.

He began his political career in local government during the 1980s, eventually becoming the elected Leader of Hammersmith & Fulham Council in 1996. He held this position until 2005.

Prior to his election, Andy served as a Councillor for the LB of Hammersmith & Fulham for 20 years, and as Leader of the Council from 1996 to 2005.  He has served on the Management Committee of Hammersmith & Fulham Law Centre for over 20 years.
