John Leslie

John Leslie was admitted to the Middle Temple in 1965, called to the Bar in 1969 and elected a Bencher in 2002. At the Bar he had chambers in the Temple, latterly at Lamb Chambers, where he had a General Common Law practice refining to personal injury and clinical negligence. From 1992 he sat as a deputy Queen’s Bench Master and was appointed to the full time position in 1996 and, after acting as Senior Master and Queen’s Remembrancer in 2013/4, retired in 2016, but was re-appointed and continued to sit as a deputy Master until 2021. He was appointed a Court Examiner from 2017 until 2023; he remains available to be nominated to take Examinations pursuant to Civil Procedure Rule 34.18(1)(a). He was a member of the original Civil Procedure Rule Committee under Lord Woolf. He was an editor of the Civil Court Practice (“The Green Book”) from 1999 until 20211 and is an editor of various volumes of Atkin’s Court Forms. From 1999 until 2015 he was a course tutor at the Judicial Studies Board – now the Judicial College. His interests include France and French, bridge, woodworking and he hopes to continue learning bookbinding.
