LAMB LIMELIGHT: Christian Fox

In our latest Lamb Limelight, we feature one of our newest members of Chambers.

Christian Fox is in the spotlight this week.

Tell us a little about yourself and your practice.
“I came late to the bar having left school at 17 with only 4 ‘O’ levels. 30 years after leaving school I did a law degree, masters, and was then called to the bar. The majority of what I do is property work with a growing contentious probate practice. I think the two areas of law sit well together.”

What is your first memory of wanting to be a barrister?
“I worked in my local magistrates’ court during school holidays (it is now expensive apartments). I loved slipping into court and sitting with the clerk to watch the robed barristers in action.”

Is there a certain case that stands out to you in your career? If yes, why?
“There have been several:

  • The 3-day right of way trial I had where Hannah Laithwaite was my opponent. It is the main reason I am now here at Lamb.
  • The work I did giving free legal advice and helping people set up leases for the Homes for Ukraine initiative (before the government got its act together). I helped around 100 families altogether.”

What’s your favourite thing about being a barrister?
“The never-ending learning. That and being able to have lunch in the building where the first recorded performance of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night happened in 1602.”

What do you do to relax?
“There isn’t much time for relaxing with 3 young boys but I love fly fishing and I keep bees.”

If you weren’t a barrister, what would you be?
“I have already done the “what would you be”. I have been a soldier, a farmer and a lawyer. I do have two historical fiction novels that I have finished but not had published – maybe next year…”
