“Since my last post, I have started in my third and final seat under the supervision of James Stuart. This has meant another long journey (next door) to a new room!
The majority of my day-to-day work has remained the same; I appear in court in small claims and fast track trials, possession hearings, injunctions and applications. Though, there has been a steady increase in the workload since starting on my feet. I now appear in court almost every day. This has meant visiting various courts across the country; only this week I had a trip to Norwich!
I am beginning to undertake more written work in my own name. As well as quantum advices and skeletons, and I have also undertaken instructions to draft pleadings. I have, however, continued to produce work for members of Chambers, including particulars of claim in a complicated CFD trading matter. This was a somewhat full-circle moment as the first piece of work I did in pupillage was an advice on the merits for the very same case!
I recently undertook my third and final written assessment for the Pupillage Committee, ahead of my application for tenancy. As well as the pupillage assessments, my tenancy application comprised a cover letter, CV, 3 examples of my written work, 3 professional references, and my pupillage record.
Again, it has not been ‘all work, no play’. In June, I attended Chambers’ Summer Party at Sea Containers London. This was a great opportunity to catch up with new and familiar faces, as well as clients who I had not yet met in person. This was also the perfect spot to watch the sunset with a cucumber spritz (or two). This was not the end of the summer celebrations though as a few members of Chambers and I spent a lovely evening at the Middle Temple Summer Party as guests of our building neighbour, Master Treasurer Bernard Richmond KC. I also took part in the London Legal Walk with Chambers, raising money in support of Advocate and Free Representation Unit (FRU); brilliant causes providing access to justice.
Outside of work, I took a week of leave in July and went on holiday with my family. This was a nice opportunity to take a break away from my laptop and papers to recharge for the final two months of pupillage!
This is my penultimate blog post, meaning pupillage will be over in a matter of weeks. It feels as if the days are passing by faster than ever. However, in reviewing these blog posts and producing my tenancy application, I was reminded about the progress that has been made over the past 10 months.”
