International Women’s Week 2023 at Lamb Chambers. Spotlight: Elizabeth Dwomoh

Lamb Chambers are proud to celebrate International Women’s Day, a global awareness campaign that aims to celebrate the achievement of women all over the world, bring awareness to gender equality, and take a stand against gender bias. Throughout the week, Lamb Chambers will be highlighting women barristers from our set who will share their insights in how they pursued a career in law.

This year’s International Women’s Day theme, #EmbraceEquity campaign is to get the world talking about Why equal opportunities aren’t enough. People start from different places, so true inclusion and belonging require equitable action.

For our first spotlight, we’re highlighting Elizabeth Dwomoh. Elizabeth is a specialist property and commercial barrister. She is commended by professional and lay clients alike for the forensic nature of her advocacy and her clear and practical advisory work. The below is how Elizabeth got started in law and her advice for women looking to break into the field of law.

What made you decide to pursue a career in law?

When I was seven years old I watched a documentary by Paul Hamann called “14 Days in May”.  It concerned the wrongful conviction and subsequent execution of Edward Earl Johnson and the battle by his lawyer, Clive Stafford Smith, to obtain a posthumous pardon for him – which he did.  It was an impactful documentary and showed the pursuit of justice at its worst and best.

How did your career begin?

I began my career doing general chancery work.  I now specialise in property and commercial law.

What advice would you give to young women about to embark on their legal careers?

Keep your shoulder to the wheel and your eyes on the prize.

Who is one of your role models?

Ultimate role model – my mother, Sarah.  What an incredible woman.  Heidi, although fictional, comes a close second.
